the twilight zone, 311, and work work work.

here i am - once again, it’s update time!!!

well, let’s see… so much has happened. i’ll start with PDM in Lima…

PDM (training for us SBD 15ers) was last week, and i finally found a socio in my town (who didn’t have stay in Catache for work, didn’t have a baby to tend to, or didn’t have a husband wouldn’t allow them to leave) to bring with me to Lima. our 3 days of training was on a new program called “Somos Emprendedores, Somos Peru,” which revolves around training youth on how to create a solid business plan. very informative - and it geared me up with new materials and excitement to get back to my community and implement the program.

we had an interesting group of socios this time around. thanks to boston, who brought my most favorite character thus far - in between his hilarious comments that sprinkled all of the charlas, this guy randomly pulled out a harmonica to play a few notes in exclamation after another socio presented something in front of the group!

and at night, the tables were completely turned… it was the socios who stayed up late drinking and playing their music - beating on make-shift drums and playing guitars, harmonicas, and tambourines, while all of us volunteers went to bed early. it was, indeed, the twilight zone.

however, i did make it out one night… to a 311 show in Lima with andrew, michael, and ana. being the person that i am, i sent an email to the manager of 311, and he wrote me back this great lengthy email and hooked me up with 4 VIP passes to the show! we stayed after the show and talked with the tour manager, and he gave us their setlist. not too shabby.

since i’ve been back at site, i’ve been pretty busy. i created a triptico for the “Somos Emprendedores, Somos Peru” program, a syllabus, and wrote out my solicitudes. i’ve had meetings with the director of the colegio about the program, and i start classes next week on tuesday and thursday nights.

plus, i’ve been preparing for my second banco comunitario meeting at the municipalidad that is scheduled for next monday. and on top of all of this, i’ve had my english classes.

as for the rest, it’s been raining every single day since i’ve been back. i think this year’s rainy season has decided to dump it all out on Catache in one month. but, thank goodness the rain let up today for just enough time to allow me to get a good run in.

well, that’s all folks - will write more soon!
